Satan and Lucifer are two different deities. A Traditional Satanist would know this, whereas a Modern Satanist wouldn't really care.

Yes, there is a variety. Modern and Traditional Satanism are as different as night and day. You see, Modern Satanists are atheists who weren't loved enough as children and thus feel the need to worship themselves; when a Modern Satanist says, "Ave Satanas," what s/he is actually saying is, "Hail me!" In Traditional Satanism, there is an actual deity (Satan) being worshipped and when a TS says, "Ave Satanas," they are actually speaking to their god. Thus Modern Satanism isn't a religion at all (as there's no deity whatsoever, and the name Satan is used to give a name to and describe all primal urges/needs/desires), but Traditional Satanism is a religion.

It's really sad (by which I mean both lamentable and pathetic), but there are so many people who use their beliefs (or lack thereof) and/or practices to do those exact things: intimidate, shock, and scare. They walk around beating their chests for attention, using their beliefs and practices as some kind method of gaining respect and fear. When people do that it really pisses me off for two reasons: one, it embarrasses everyone who shares those beliefs; and two, it makes those beliefs look like they are something that they are not, or like a complete joke.

=SATANIST=, if you are a Modern Satanist, then you doesn't have to worry about embarrassing Modern Satanism; how do you embarrass atheists?? But if you're going to be strutting around announcing yourself as a Traditional Satanist, you might want to consider about how your behaviour is reflecting upon your religion.
