Should I get a Tattoo?
I recently had a young woman approach me concerning her desire for a lip piercing. She explained to me in a calm, collected way that she had desired one for years, but her Godly parents threatened to turn her over to her local independent Baptist church if she got one. She's 18 now and thinks she can go do whatever she wants but I felt an almost personal responsibility to save her from Hell. So, I sat down with her and the proper supervision and I told her exactly why piercings and tattoos will make Jesus send you to Hell.
Leviticus 19:28 says "Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord." Now, if the Lord says something like that in the first three books of the Bible, the argument should end right there. He tells us flat out not to cut our flesh or print marks upon us. Do you think he'll have any sympathy when Judgment Day gets here? I don't think so. He's going to look you square in the eyes and say "I wrote a book called the Bible. You didn't even have to read very far into it. It says right there not to do that, and you disobeyed me. Enjoy eternity in Hell." As if that one verse isn't enough, the Lord repeats himself later on in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." Because our bodies are the temple of God, and the Holy Spirit can shrink until He fits inside our hearts, who are we to inflict injury upon a body that isn't even ours. That's right: "Your" body doesn't belong to you. It belongs to Jesus. Piercing yourself or getting a tattoo is like keying a True Christians™ car, or spray painting their house. Needless to say they're going to get angry. Now, ask yourself this. Do you want the God that killed over 2,391,421 people in the Bible to be angry at you? I don't. Many people don't know this, but piercings have there origination with witchcraft. The Bible says in Deuteronomy 14:1 "Ye are the children of the LORD your God: ye shall not cut yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead." Making baldness between their eyes for the dead was a tradition in witchcraft. We already know that God despises witchcraft. He's the same God that said suffer not a witch to live. Don't think for one second He's going to tolerate your pseudo-wickeran behavior! He's not going to accept "I'm not a witch, I just have a piercing!" You know what that sounds like to Jesus (and True Christians™): It sounds like "I'm not an obese, pansy, hell-bound sodomite who drinks the blood of True Christian™ babies, I just act like one!!" Jesus doesn't like that one bit. So, next time you Unsaved Trash think about getting a piercing or a tattoo, just remember that Jesus is watching you and when He kills you He's going to ask you if you acted like a witch, and if you have a piercing or a tattoo He won't take "No" for an answer!! Glory :yahoo: |
Re: Should I get a Tattoo?
I couldn't agree with you more, Pastor Ezekiel. I often hear the same questions, and I always have to tell the kids to wait until they're older and wiser to decide to ruin their bodies before God. Our bodies are our temples and should not be defiled by human fetishes. Not to mention the stigma of having a scarred eyebrow after the body rejects the piercing.

Re: Should I get a Tattoo?
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but BOTH the verses you quoted had something else in common: they condemned cutting yourself "for the dead." The girl you described, it sounds to me that she wanted a piercing for fashion and it had nothing to do with the dead.
However, if any cutting of the flesh is wrong, does that mean surgery is a sin? |
Re: Should I get a Tattoo?
Dear Lord! I was going to BAN the person who started this thread, because I can't even believe one of our members would ask such a question. I am so relieved that Pastor Zeke was really posting an informational thread and he did such a wonderful job of referencing his advice to our Holy Bible.
Unfortunately, I have an acquaintance who has many tattoos, including one of our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, which I find particularly threatening. This person claims to be an Evangelical, but has yet to step foot into a Baptist church! I just hope our Sweet Baby Jesus finds a way to scour that nasty tattoo off of my "friend" (I use the term loosely) before the Devil Himself burns it off. Oh, and I am reminded of the day our good Pastor Pistle backhanded a young lady in our church. It seems the good pastor saw some purple ink on her elbow. Unfortunately, the poor gal had brushed by the Mulberry bush on her way to church. But don't any of you folks think you can flash a tattoo around Mother Glynndie without getting a good hard whack! |

That doesn't say anything about tattoos or body piercings. |

However, when nuts like yourself try to turn their personal interpretation of the Bible into law, it impacts me. Here in Oklahoma, getting a tattoo was illegal up until just a few years ago. And cockfighting was perfectly legal up until about the same time. Socially, this state is about fifty years behind the rest of the world and I can't help but think that it's because so many people in this state think just like LBC members. Maybe you should move from Iowa to Oklahoma. |

Leviticus 19:28 says "Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord." Yep, I'm pretty sure that means 'dude, don't let dead folks tattoo you!!!'. That means 'zombies', right??? But Im confused?? What if Jesus came back, an wanted to tattoo me? He's a zombie, right??
