Day 291 part 2 Matthew 24.
Day 291 part 2 Matthew 24. I want to thank God that He allows me the opportunity to preach another part in the Bible in a Year Series.
There is too much going on in Matthew 23 and 24 to go over them as a single sermon, so I broke it into two parts. In part two we are going over some end times prophecies and different beliefs or eschatologies revolving around them. Exposition Wow, it seems like it has been more than a year since Jesus began the showdown in the temple. Please keep in mind that according to our narrative, it has been two days since Jesus was hailed as a conquering hero who marched into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey and stopped into the largest building in the city, whipped the people exchanging temple money for blood sacrifices to His daddy. He then left for a day and then came back the next to argue with the Pharisees for a day in the same temple the day after he violently overturned their tables. Clearly, this is an extremely famous man with an army backing Him up to be able to walk freely after accomplishing all this. It is that or He is using His Jesus powers to keep the rich and powerful of the city who control it and the Temple from exacting their revenge on Him, until Jesus is good and ready for them to. It's incredible that a mere man accomplished all this in a 48 hour period without cars. I know I have spent longer reading and understanding what He did than the time it actually took Jesus to do them. Matthew 24:1 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple. 2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. Yet another perfect score for the prophecy of Jesus. He predicts the temple will be destroyed and lo it was! http://www.levitt.com/slideshow/s01p05.jpg Atheists can't explain that! 3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? The Olivet Discourse AKA The little Apocalypse Jesus has left the temple and gone on a private retreat with His disciples to the Mount of Olives. Here's our handy map again for perspective http://www.welcometohosanna.com/LIFE...yJerusalem.jpg Now I am going to lay down some heavy concepts relating to Christian eschatology on the fulfillment of these prophecies before we go deeply into them. Preterism- The worst of the three. It basically calls Jesus a liar. This idea says the Gospels are describing things that already happened. They believe that the author already knew that Jerusalem was overthrown by the Romans and that the evangelist is making a prediction of things already past. Historicism- This is the end times prophecy as we look at the scriptures and apply them to today. Like the Pope or Obama is the antichrist. We see signs and miracles telling us that the end is nigh. And it is! It has been for 2000 years now! Futurism- This is the idea that everything will come to pass literally some day, but we just don't know when. Quote:
Please see Brother V's commentary on these verses showing how much they totally line up with what Jesus is saying. :D Quote:
The historicist would say that the wars and earthquakes of the 20th century were just the beginning and that the massive falling away from the church in the U.S. and Europe is a sign that we are near the end. The futurist would point to a verse later in the chapter. 29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: We are in for a rough ride here. There will be no light whatsoever anywhere and the stars will fall down to the ground. (See also Revelation 6:13) 30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. But then things get better as Jesus and His angels return to take out the trash. :sinner: (See also Matthew 13:41) Another Fig Tree Parable The Lord is quite fond of these. 32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: 33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. These things will happen when? 34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. 35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. 36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. No one knows, but soon I am sure! 37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, Take that, non-literalist Christians who don't believe in Noah's Ark! Jesus confirms that it was a real thing. Finishing up with the parable of the good servant. Quote:
What did we learn today? So much as usual, but my main takeaways are the three types of belief within Christianity in regards to prophecy and that ours is the right one. Jesus is always right on in His prophecies. He never misses. I can't wait until Jesus returns on the clouds with His angels to do some smiting of the unsaved and demons. Praise God and thank you for reading. |

Re: Day 291 part 2 Matthew 24.
Thanks for the commentary; it made the reading much more rewarding. I have a few questions though.
Matthew 24:40,41 Is this the rapture? If not, I guess ignore the rest of this post  I looked around a bit and did not find an explicit True Christian™ doctrine regarding the rapture. Elsewhere on the internet, I found terms like "pre-tribulation" and "post-millennial." What is the correct view? Sorry if it has been posted already; I did search. Matthew 24:24,25 True Christians™ are the "elect" right? Or are the "elect" a more exclusive group within True Christianity™? Either way I think it is really nice of Jesus to give a heads up about the false Christs. Matthew 24:9,10 This seems to be tribulation, and Jesus appears to be talking about True Christians™ before the Rapture. Am I reading that correctly? |

My Pastor told me that 1 Thessalonians 4:17 says everyone who does what Jesus says goes to Heaven. He also told me that Matthew 24:29 says everything else will be destroyed. Then my Pastor got mad because I used the wrong kind of paint. |
