I’m a Fool...

... and proud of it! For “God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise” (1 Cor 1:27). When I looked around church on Sunday morning at those gathered to worship, I was reminded of the words of the Apostle Paul: “not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called” (1 Cor 1:26). Yet these are the people that God in His infinite wisdom has chosen to fill His church with. And these are the people we should focus on reaching out to when we evangelize. God doesn’t want us to waste our time with the wise, with the intelligent. “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness” (1 Cor 1:18a).

I sometimes think we are all guilty of trying to come across as too intelligent when we are defending our faith. I know I sometimes like to draw on the distinguished works of Ken Ham or Ray Comfort. Or I might refer a seeker to the scholarly essays in our creation science forum. But perhaps I need to use more foolish arguments, dumb it down a bit. After all, not everyone was lucky enough to be home schooled. Even Paul himself wasn’t too proud to “speak as a fool” (2 Cor 11:23). When he first preached to the church at Corinth, he “came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God” (1 Cor 2:1b), “and [his] speech and [his] preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom” (1 Cor 2:4a). I shouldn’t be trying to appeal to people’s intelligence, for “if any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise” (1 Cor 3:18). I should be trying to get people to become a fool like me.

We fools will get the last laugh. All those wise, intelligent people will burn in hell for eternity. "For it is written, [God] will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent" (1 Cor 1:19). Here now in context are the words of Scripture on the matter. This passage needs no further explanation from me. It speaks for itself.

17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.
20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:
23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;
24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.
30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

Chapter 2
1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.
2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.
3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.
4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:
5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:
7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:
8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ. —
1 Cor 1:17-2:16

Intelligence is overrated. It won't get you into heaven.

AMEN!

As a True Christian mother™, I make sure my children don't get their heads filled with any secular garbage. Their education, entertainment, and social skills consists of that which is written in the King James Version Bible, 1611! Anything else would invite pride and sin into their vulnerable little souls, and I will not have that in my home!

For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.
1 Corinthians 3:19

This wisdom [of man] descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.
James 3:15

Now these things, brethren, I have figuratively applied to myself and Apollos for your sakes, so that in us you may learn not to exceed what is written [the Bible],
so that no one of you will become arrogant in behalf of one against the other.
1 Corinthians 4:6

That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive
Ephesians 4:14

I just wish the Catholic treachery of accepting false science into schools hadn't blighted me with an excellent understanding of evolution and cosmology. You have no idea of the pain caused by this ridiculous indoctrination of children with plausible sounding fairy tales told to them by deluded authority figures. I still sometimes wake up in a cold sweat thinking I am descended from a monkey and have no special place in the world as one of God's elect. I feel the horror of thinking that faggots and heathens won't burn in Hell.

It's horrible, brothers and sisters, truly horrible.

Amen. I believe Paul put it best in his first letter to the Corinthians. He tells the church in Corinth sarcastically how wise they are.

9 For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men.
10 We are fools for Christ's sake, but ye are wise in Christ; we are weak, but ye are strong; ye are honourable, but we are despised.
11 Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwellingplace;
12 And labour, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it:
13 Being defamed, we intreat: we are made as the filth of the world, and are the offscouring of all things unto this day.

I too strive daily to be a fool for Christ's sake. :thumbsup:
