Trust and Honesty

Sitting on the front porch this evening, thinking about all that is going on in the world. Seems to me some of the areas that are weak in today's world is trust and honesty. In my book, you meet a man, you treat him reasonably. The more you know him and are honest, the more you know about him, the greater the trust. So when someone you know well and trust, is spoken poorly about, you have to wonder about the speaker. Is there a reason or is the trusted friend no longer trustworthy. Now the KJV 1611 Bible has a lot of verse about trust but these passages seemed to say it best. Bear with me as I am not a Bible Scholar like a Rev. or Pastor.

Quote:

Judges 9:15 (King James Version)
15And the bramble said unto the trees, If in truth ye anoint me king over you, then come and put your trust in my shadow: and if not, let fire come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon.

Now, I Read this as meaning to have faith in a mans actions if you have faith in the man. But if the faith is not there, then cast him aside as you never had the faith at all.

Quote:

Kings 18:20 (King James Version)
20Thou sayest, (but they are but vain words,) I have counsel and strength for the war. Now on whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?

This verse is having trust in your leader and the leader in his warriors nd vice versa. Sort of, who do you believe, your own son or the accusations of a relative stranger. The son must have knowledge that his father is there for him just as the father must know, the son is honest with him.

I think these are a measure of a mans backbone. I think Trust and Honesty are the most important virtues a man can have.
Trust and Honesty are major components of Faith. I would think if a man was not Honest to and have Trust in God, he could not have Faith in God. Also, if God does not believe in the Honesty of a Man and the Trust of the man, then God does have Faith in the man.:jesus:

As I said, was just sitting on the porch mulling life. Well, off to bed, 4 AM comes up mighty quick.

James, that was indeed pretty smart sounding, but even though I think those verses mean what you say they do, that seems to me like you are dangerously close to interpreting the Bible, which we all know is wrong.

As Independent Baptists, we are supposed to believe the Bible, not interpret it. As you said, you are no Bible scholar and neither am I, but what I do is read the Bible, understand it as best I can, and leave it at that. Deciding what it means exactly is not my job, I just believe it!

I think that interpretation (from one language to another) is permitted
1Co:14:26: How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.

But ‘interpretation’ in the sense of ‘explaining a meaning’ is permitted, as long as the subject is not a prophecy.

2Pe:1:20: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
2Pe:1:21: For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Of course, these latter verses could be interpreted as not ‘translating’ a prophecy or (see ‘private’) it may be done publicly or with agreement of others as lon as there is the guidance of The Holy Spirit.

I look at it as stating it in simpler terms. No interpertation or translation.
